Free Falling
Well,
It's been quite awhile since i posted last. Sorry 'bout that. Anyway, I'm in the process of getting settled here at UConn. It's quite an adjustment going from a college with 1,300 students to a University that has 18,000 students. I feel quite lost in the shuffle. Yesterday (my first day here) was overwhelming. In the middle of unpacking (after trying for many fruitless hours to get my computer working) i realized that I didn't know where to throw out my garbage. So, as most normal, mature graduate students would do, I sat on the floor and had a good cry. Then I found the trash cans at the foot of the stairs (who on earth knows why they're there, but why question the powers that be...) and felt better. But 5 minutes later I was crying again cause I realized that I won't see my sister till thanksgiving. I sniffled on and off through the night, but since today is much better, we'll chalk it up to the fact that I had to get up before 5 am to get here in time for my meetings.
Today has gone so much better. I got all my business taken care of, payroll and I are now great friends, and I even found all the buildings that my classes are in. Go figure that my 8 am class is about a gazillion miles from anywhere. Why is that always the case? I was ecstatic to find out that I'm not TAing a lab by myself. Since the labs are "huge" ie 20-25 freshmen, there are two TA's assigned to each section. That means that I'm not marching off to the world of fetal pigs on my own. Hongera!
On a much lighter note, I am the new owner of a digital camera, so hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures of my crazy life here. We'll have to see how that goes.
Okay, I'm getting hungry and since the dining halls aren't open till saturday, its up to me to make dinner. Tonights menu includes oatmeal, yougurt, and.....an apple. Yes, pathetic I know, but all I have at my disposal is a microwave. I haven't even really been grocery shopping yet.
Okay, off to make my dinner:-)
bye!
